Pearl Harbor Rememberance Ceremony

December 7, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 2:30 pm

While the holidays are a time of joy, they should also be a time of reflection. This year, our community’s Christmas Kiwanis parade and fireworks celebration day happens to fall on Pearl Harbor Day, December 7th.

We will pause to remember and honor Pearl Harbor Day as a community in downtown West Monroe with a Remembrance Ceremony at 2:00 p.m. in Alley Park with The Blue Star Mothers of NELA and Chennault Aviation and Military Museum.

Bring a yellow rose to join us in laying roses in memory of those who perished that day at the conclusion of the ceremony.

The Blue Star Mothers will read the names of those casualties from Louisiana, and we will toll the bell for our military branches. Chennault Museum CEO, Nell Calloway, will speak about the significance of Pearl Harbor as it relates to our community.

The Monroe-West Monroe Convention and Visitors Bureau will post the names of the Louisiana casualties near Alley Park with a display that can be viewed throughout the day. The Blue Star Mothers will begin the process of laying roses in front of the names after the ceremony and the public will be invited to join that process.

This year’s Kiwanis Christmas Parade Grand Marshal is WWII Veteran and Former West Monroe Mayor, Bert Hatten. Bert will be present at the ceremony as the guest of honor.
